One of America’s Favorite Retail Chains Accused of Racism

Wal-Mart is one of my favorite stores to shop at. But many people may change their opinions after reading this bit of news.

Recently, Wal-Mart customers were very upset about a comment that was made over the intercom system at a location in New Jersey. The announcer, who was said to have been a man, got on the public-address system and said: “Attention, Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now”.

After hearing the announcement, some customers became infuriated. Here is what some outraged shoppers had to say about the incident:

“I want to know why such statements are being made, because it flies in the face of what we teach our children about tolerance for all.

I depended on Wal-Mart for all my needs, because the store has pretty much everything you could want, but until this issue is addressed in a way I’m comfortable with, I can’t walk through those doors again.”

The situation is not a good look at all for the billion dollar retail chain. Wal-Mart representatives have been working to resolve the situation. Unfortunately for them, this is not the first incident concerning race.

Last February, a class action lawsuit was filed against the retailer resulting in a $17.5 million settlement. It was said that the hiring process for truck drivers discriminated against applicants because of their race.

Later that same year, Wal-Mart faced another lawsuit for a manager’s supposed verbal abuse towards an employee.

It has been said that Wal-Mart is attempting to reach out to shoppers of all different nationalities and is becoming more diverse when it comes to their employees. Although some people were highly offended about the statement, some felt as though the comment was bad but not the worst comment that they have ever heard.
