Where will Terrell Owens be headed next season?

By: Taren Vaughan

It’s been only one season with the Buffalo Bills and Terrell Owens is homeless once again. The 36 year old NFL wide receiver just can’t seem to stay with one team for more than a season or two since his seven year run with the San Francisco 49ers. First it was the Philadelphia Eagles then it was the Dallas Cowboys. Now that his run with the Bills appears to be over, he is in search of a new place to call home. So far, he has not had any luck. Hmm, I wonder why.

Seriously though, why are teams so reluctant to pick up Mr. Owens?

Well we all know T.O. is one of the flashiest players since Deion Sanders, the one they call “Primetime”. There have been numerous times where he has gone far beyond the end zone dancing and posing after touchdowns that most players do. Check out the picture above. See what I’m saying? But should his exaggerated behavior and cocky yet confident attitude keep him from playing with a team for an extended period of time?

Let’s be honest here. T.O. is not the only arrogant professional athlete out there. There are many mega stars in the league who want their presence to be known at ALL times. He is not definitely by himself on that one. That list goes on for days. Regardless, Owens would still have the same level of talent if he was a low key type of player. It’s more so about his attitude when it comes to team play. Having played with the likes of quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo, Terrell Owens was a major asset to both the Eagles’ and the Cowboys’ offensive line-up. Be that as it may, he still managed to cause a rift in the teams’ chemistry. Come on T.O., where is your team spirit? Being a team asset goes far beyond what you can do on the football field. It’s also about how well you get along with your teammates.

No one can deny T.O.’s talent. He is by far one of the best wide receivers in the game right now. And his athletic ability is out of this world. But if he can’t work together with his teammates, he will continue to get bounced around from team to team. As big of a star as Terrell Owens is, he can’t win games by himself. It doesn’t matter how talented you are as an individual. When you play a team sport, it is about everyone’s success or failure. You win as a team and you lose as one. And because T.O. has been labeled as a “one man show”, he will not find a permanent home for himself on anyone’s roster with ease.

As far as his fans are concerned, they absolutely adore this man. And he has the skills that any coach would be glad to have on their squad. But when it comes to the overall accomplishment of the team, one individual can stand in the way of that. Is it over for T.O. at this point? I definitely wouldn’t say that he is done by far. T.O. will eventually find a team that he can mesh well with and hopefully end his NFL career with. But it is going to take him more time than the average superstar as his image is not squeaky clean.
